WAPAKONETA — Alcohol is being investigated as a factor in a fatal crash that involved two motorcycles and a pickup truck late Saturday night, the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said in a news release.
Around 9:49 p.m. Saturday troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash on state Route 219 near the Mercer-Auglaize County Line.
Jason Frey, 23, from Yorkshire, Ohio was driving a 2009 blue Harley Davidson motorcycle. Andrew Bohman, 25, from Maria Stein, was driving a white 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle. Douglas Miller, 52, from Piqua, was driving a red 2016 Dodge Ram pick-up truck.
Both motorcycles were traveling eastbound on state Route 219 in the left lane. Bohman’s motorcycle struck the Frey motorcycle in the rear. Both drivers were ejected from the motorcycles. Bohman’s motorcycle fell to its side on the roadway while Frey’s motorcycle continued rolling eastbound on state Route 219, striking Miller’s pickup truck that was also traveling eastbound.
Frey was pronounced dead at the scene. Bohman was taken to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys and then flown to Lima Memorial Hospital. Miller was not hurt.
Frey and Bohman were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
