BATH TOWNSHIP — Ryan Droll, 17, a senior at Bath High School, wants to become a civil engineer and he’s already started taking college classes.

“I’m taking classes through Ohio State and I’m also taking classes through Toledo through the College Credit Plus program. So when I go to Toledo for civil engineering, they’re just the basic electives that I’ll be able to get out of the way,” he said.

So why did Droll want to become a civil engineer?

“It’s actually what my dad does. I’ve always been around it and seen it. We always go out to the bridges and the worksites and see things. It’s always been kind of interesting,” he said.

He’s hoping to become involved with the Ohio Department of Transportation.

“Hopefully I can get into ODOT. I’m going to apply for an internship after high school,” said Droll.

You may not see him very much at the school his senior year as he’s heavily involved in taking college classes.

“I almost think I’ve learned more from college than I have from high school classes,” he said.

He’s also a member of the Roadrunners, a cycling club from Lima.

“We just ride around, 25-30 miles at a time,” said Droll.

In his spare time, he works at Taco Bell on Harding Highway.
