LIMA — The Lima Mall has a new option for families looking for indoor entertainment: Glo Golf.

The glow-in-the-dark indoor miniature golf course, which opened the weekend of Aug. 10, is the latest venture from the folks behind the Hero Day, an inflatable obstacle course venue that opened in the Lima Mall late last year.

“Our main mission is to make Lima fun again,” said Brad Gossard, who opened the Hero Day and Glo Golf in Lima. Gossard noticed families are yearning for more to do in Lima, particularly during winter months, which prompted him to develop the Hero Day and now Glo Golf.

His latest venture is a colorful, 12-hole miniature golf course, which pays homage to popular culture with Super Mario Bros., King Kong and circus-themed murals, to name a few.

Developing the course took about two months. But Gossard plans to keep developing more entertainment venues as space becomes available at the Lima Mall. He’s already planning an ice cream eatery for the Hero Day, which should be ready before the end of the year. And Gossard is hopeful he’ll open a high-tech laser tag center in the mall by mid-2020.

“They’re super eager to get these spaces filled. … We do business in other markets too, but Lima is great. It’s strong. I think it’s overlooked because it’s so small but everybody here, they’re eager for new places to eat and things to do,” Gossard said.

The Lima Mall has expanded its portfolio into entertainment as the mall tries to fill empty storefronts vacated by struggling retailers.

In July, for example, the mall opened The Yard — an interactive activity space in the Macy’s concourse where passersby can enjoy a free game of giant Jenga, Connect Four or table tennis.

Betsy Billingsley, marketing director for the Lima Mall, said The Yard has attracted weekly visitors including UNOH and high school students.

“It’s giving the high school kids something more to do than just hang out at the mall. (That’s) been beneficial for the kids and families as well,” Billingsley said. “We’re always looking at new ways to develop and bring in more entertainment and more shopping experiences.”
