Two seriously injured in early-morning Auglaize County crash


NEW HAMPSHIRE — Two motorists were flown to area hospitals Monday morning following a head-on collision on U.S. 33 in Auglaize County near the Logan County line.

According to a press release from the Wapakoneta post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers were dispatched at shortly after 5 a.m. Monday to the site of a crash on U.S. 33 near New Hampshire.

The initial investigation indicates that a 2004 Jeep Cherokee driven by Troy Dempster, 50, of Huntsville, was northbound on U.S. 33 and traveled left of center, striking a Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Charlette Plapp, 54, of Waynesfield.

Dempster was flown to Grant Medical Center in Columbus and Plapp was flown to Mercy-Health St. Rita’s Medical Center. Both suffered what the patrol described as severe injuries.

The crash remains under investigation, and alcohol or drugs is not believed to have been a contributing factor.

Assisting at the scene were the Wapakoneta post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office, Wayne Township Fire and EMS, Indian Lake EMS, Life Flight, Med Flight, Russell’s Point Fire Department and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
