LIMA — The Lima Knights of Columbus Hall on Cable Road is in foreclosure, the Catholic men’s organization confirmed in a letter to council members this week.
While the clubhouse will close Aug. 3, KayCee Inc. president Bill Bassitt wrote that the Lima Knights of Columbus chapter remains viable and will continue meeting at Lima Central Catholic in September.
The Lima Knights of Columbus tried to sell the property so it could downsize to a smaller location, according to Bassitt’s letter.
“Unfortunately, the building did not sell and there are consequently no funds at the present time to consider finding or funding an alternative location,” Bassitt wrote. “It remains something for the (Lima Knights of Columbus) to consider in the future when the fiscal situation improves.
“In the meantime the bulk of our energies will be focused in restoring the K of C council to an organization that is dedicated to and recognized for its service to the Catholic community of Lima.”
The fraternal organization has struggled with low membership in the past.
The Lima News reported that the Lima Knights of Columbus had to close the hall for several weeks in July 2013 due to low membership. The Knights of Columbus Hall, located at 810 S. Cable Road, opened in 2004.
