LIMA — Individuals working on the fuel line of a car that was parked partially inside a commercial storage unit had an unexpected surprise when the car burst into flames when it started Thursday.
According to a spokesman for the American Township Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday to Country Aire Storage, 1554 Gannon Drive, near the intersection of Allentown Road, in response to the car fire.
The blaze caused fire damage to two of the nearby storage units and smoke damage to an undetermined number of other units. Initial damage estimates were set at $4,000 for the vehicle and $2,000 to the building. The fire department spokesman said the dollar amount could go up based on damage to the contents of other individual storage units.
