LIMA — Locally owned clothing and jewelry retailer Kelly’s Boutique is closing its downtown Lima store Saturday as owners Tim and Kelly Spallinger shift their focus to e-commerce and their stores in Berlin, Ohio.
Kelly Spallinger started selling homemade jewelry in 2003, later opening her own store near Allen East in 2010. She and her husband, Tim, moved Kelly’s Boutique to 220 N. Main St. in 2016, expanding the store’s inventory to include women’s and children’s clothing, jewelry and home décor.
But the couple have struggled to sell downtown Lima to customers and are focusing instead on Berlin, Ohio, where Kelly’s Boutique has a presence in the flea market Sol’s and on Main Street.
“It was really the same situation as Nitza’s,” Kelly Spallinger told The Lima News on Friday. “We couldn’t get people to come downtown. I didn’t want to give it up. I wanted to see Lima be what it was like when I was little, but we couldn’t get people to come downtown, unfortunately.”
The boutique will hold its last day in Lima from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.
Spallinger said the couple will continue selling Kelly’s Boutique merchandise to Lima customers via Facebook.
“We just want to thank the community, for those who have supported us over the years,” Kelly Spallinger said. “We feel very blessed to have been in retail in Allen County. We just love Lima. We hope to continue to see it grow.”
