LIMA — Klark Sweigart, of Lima, brought his 1953 Dodge Military Ambulance to the Westgate Charity Car Show recently.
Sweigart and his friend, Lucas Coon, also of Lima, are working on the vehicle together.
“We like to go to the Memorial Day Parade in Lafayette, so we thought we would get this for the parade,” Sweigart said.
The duo had to clean up parts and bypass wiring. Everything is original on the ambulance. It features a four speed on the floor with a straight six 230 Dodge engine.
“We’re still working on the brakes,” Sweigart joked.
The passenger side caught on fire the day before the car show. That didn’t deter these guys one bit.
Sweigart intends to restore the vehicle, converting it back to an Army-style vehicle, down to the green paint.
