LIMA — Plans for the new Allen County Department of Job & Family Services office are moving forward.

The Allen County Commissioners Tuesday approved a $1.1 million design build contract with Hume Supply Inc. to build an 8,000-square-foot workforce development center and conference room addition at the current Lima Memorial Heart Institute in preparation for the ACJFS move in 2020.

ACJFS entered into a 25-year, $7.6 million lease agreement with Lima Memorial Health System for the Heart Institute building, located near Interstate 75 at 951 Commerce Parkway, saving the department $3.9 million over the course of the lease.

ACJFS Director Joe Patton said the workforce development center, which is being added to the space the department plans to lease from Lima Memorial, will be used to host large hiring events and conferences.

Work associated with the project is funded through state and federal grants, not local county dollars.

Patton told commissioners Tuesday the event center should be finished by the end of this year. The department’s move is anticipated in 2020.
