LIMA — A Lima man charged with the shooting death last month of 63-year-old Donald Smith was among three dozen individuals arraigned Friday in Allen County Common Pleas Court.

Quintel Estelle, 38, entered pleas of not guilty to two counts of murder, each of which are unclassified felonies with three-year specifications for the use of a firearm.

Estelle is charged with murder in connection with the death of Smith during a May 5 shooting in front of 939 Brice Ave. Smith’s death was Allen County’s third homicide of 2019.

According to reports from the Lima Police Department, Smith had been in an altercation with Estelle. Estelle went inside the house and retrieved a gun, firing at least two shots at Smith, hitting him once in the chest, before fleeing the scene.

Estelle remained at large until he turned himself in last month.

Estelle was represented during his initial appearance in Lima Municipal Court by Stephen Johnston, a private attorney from Toledo. His bond was continued at $750,000.
