ST. MARYS — The rain-swollen St. Marys River was just too much for three people who needed rescued early Sunday morning.
According to the St. Marys Police Department, they got a call at 12:20 a.m. Sunday about three people in the river.
Fire and police responded and put a rescue boat in the river, finding two of the victims between Markley and Glynwood roads. A third was found at the High Street shelter house in St. Marys.
Two of them were taken to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital to be checked out.
St. Marys police and fire departments got help from the Auglaize County EMA and were able to use a St. Marys Police drone in helping to search for the victims. The scene was cleared at 2:50 a.m.
It’s the second time in the last two months crews had to take rescue people from the St. Marys River. In April, the fire department rescued two people after they lost control of their canoe in the rain-swollen St. Marys River.
