LIMA — Juneteenth Lima will be from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at Martin Luther King Jr. Park, Lima.
The event will include live music, spoken word poetry, visual arts and children’s activities. There will also be booths for local partners with information on education, job training, health, lifestyle, entrepreneurship and more.
The Juneteenth festival is presented by The Council for the Arts of Greater Lima, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and the Sigma Mu Omega Chapter.
Juneteenth is an American holiday that commemorates the June 19, 1865, announcement of the abolition of slavery in the U.S. state of Texas, and more generally the emancipation of enslaved African Americans throughout the former Confederate States of America. In Lima, as in communities across the country, the day has evolved into a celebration of Black achievement and community togetherness.
