LIMA — A 52-year-old man described as homeless in court documents changed his plea to guilty of felonious assault during a June 5 court appearance in relation to an attempted robbery of a Lima Circle K that occurred last December.
According to earlier reports, Kenith Varno allegedly was involved in an attempted robbery of the convenience store at 2054 N. West St., which resulted in the store clerk struggling briefly with a suspect over a knife before the suspect left the business without further incident.
During Varno’s court hearing in Allen County Common Pleas Court, Varno filed a negotiated guilty plea for felonious assault, a second degree felony. Three related charges — aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and retaliation — were dropped.
Varno’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. July 15.
