Putnam County students receive scholarships


OTTAWA — Four area high school seniors were announced Friday as Edward and Ettie Rieman scholarships during a ceremony at The Red Pig Inn in Ottawa.

The awards were presented by the Putnam County Educational Service Center to outstanding graduates of any Putnam County school.

The award has been presented since 2002 and is in honor of Edward, a life-long resident of Putnam County, former county commissioner, teacher and superintendent of Miler City-New Cleveland schools. Ettie was a long time member and officer of Putnam County Historical Society.

Gabriella Dershem of Miller City High School will attend Franciscan University and major in biology with a theology minor. Her parents are James and Jenelle Niese.

Hope Wischmeyer, Ottawa-Glandorf High School will attend Bluffton University and major in elementary education and intervention specialist. Her parents are Alan and Suzy Wischmeyer.

Reese Mangas of Leipsic High School will attend Ohio State University ATI and major in ag systems management. His parents are Doug and Denise Mangas.

Trevor Vorst of Kalida High School will attend Wright State University and major in electrical engineering. His parents are Fran and Diane Vorst.
