VAN WERT — A storm with winds of up to 70 to 80 mph caused severe damage in the city of Van Wert Thursday morning.

The storm came through Van Wert around 6 a.m. and swept north into Paulding, Defiance and Henry counties. Despite the wind damage, National Weather Service Northern Indiana Meteorologist Mark Steinwedel said there were no signs of a tornado.

Little to no damage was reported in the remainder of Van Wert County, or Putnam and Mercer counties by the respective sheriff’s offices.
