Two hurt in two-vehicle crash at Elida and Eastown


AMERICAN TOWNSHIP — Two people were hurt in a two-vehicle crash at around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday at Elida and Eastown roads.

The American Township Police Department is investigating what happened.

According to reports, a vehicle driven by Barbara L. Emerick, 72, of Lima, was southbound on Eastown and attempted to turn eastbound onto Elida Road when she collided with a vehicle driven north on Eastown by Sharonica Horrison, 36, also of Lima.

Emerick’s vehicle ended up in a ditch, and Horrison’s vehicle came to rest in the intersection.

Both Emerick and Horrison were taken to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

A 17-year-old passenger in the Horrison vehicle was not hurt.

Emerick was cited for failure to yield.

The American Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.
