SUGAR CREEK TOWNSHIP — Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a double-fatal motorcycle crash in northern Allen County on Friday night.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Lima post, a motorcycle operated by Gian L. Avery, 33, of Lima, was southbound on state Route 115 around 10:45 p.m. when he went across the center line, off the left side of the road, struck a culvert and then hit a tree.

Avery and his passenger, Ashleigh E. Hart, 30, also of Lima, were thrown from the motorcycle. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Allen County Coroner Dr. John Meyer. Avery was taken to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, where he died.

The crash resulted in the closure of state Route 115 between state Route 65 and Cole Street.

Neither Avery or Hart were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
