LIMA — A Lima man charged with the May 5 shooting death of 63-year-old Donald Smith was bound over to Allen County Common Pleas Court on Friday.

Quintel Estelle, 38, appeared in Lima Municipal Court for a preliminary hearing, at which time his case was transferred to the higher court. Estelle is charged with murder in connection with the death of Smith during a May 5 shooting in front of 939 Brice Ave.

Smith’s death was Allen County’s third homicide of 2019.

According to reports from the Lima Police Department, Smith had been in an altercation with Estelle. Estelle went inside the house and retrieved a gun, firing at least two shots at Smith, hitting him once in the chest, before fleeing the scene.

Estelle remained at large until he turned himself in last week. He made his initial appearance in Lima Municipal Court on Monday.

Smith’s daughter reportedly took the witness stand Friday and testified that she had been a witness to the shooting. Estelle was represented by Stephen Johnston, a private attorney from Toledo. His bond was continued at $750,000 cash or surety.
