ADA — Sunday was graduation day for hundreds of students at Ohio Northern University.
On Sunday morning, the College of Pharmacy held its commencement.
In the afternoon, undergraduates walked across the stage in the King Horn Center to receive their diplomas.
“We send our graduates out to make the world a better place and we feel they’re well-prepared to make significant contributions to their professions and to their communities,” said Daniel DiBiasio, president of Ohio Northern University.
On May 19, The Pettit College of Law will hold its commencement exercises.
Out of the two days, more than 630 degrees will have been earned by the students.
Receiving an honorary degree in the College of Pharmacy commencement was Richard P. Keyes, a 1992 graduate of the College of Pharmacy who is now president and CEO of Meijer.
In the undergraduate commencement, Michael Kaufmann, a 1985 graduate of Ohio Northern, received his honorary degree, a Doctor of Business Administration. He is the chief executive officer of Cardinal Health and was the commencement speaker.
The experience on the ONU campus helped shaped him to the person he is today.
“I think that just the midwest values that you get from a university like Ohio Northern, where it’s really important for you to want to treat people the way they want to be treated, work hard, have some grit to get after things. I think those have just been key things, besides the education that I was lucky enough to get here in both accounting and management,” said Kaufmann.
Karen Fields also received an honorary Doctor of Medicine degree and Daniel B. Walker received an honorary Doctor of Engineering during the undergraduate commencement.
The student speaker, Logan D. Hill, from Ridgeway, Ohio, received her degree in Musical Theatre from ONU.
She recounted how her experience in acting helped her step in the shoes of other people and understand where they’re coming from.
“That’s my message for everyone to do that and to live truthfully and honestly with themselves as you’re doing that and make human connections along the way.”
This was the 148th year for commencement at Ohio Northern University.
