OTTAWA — A new authentic Mexican restaurant owned by the current manager of Cabo Mexican Restaurant in Delphos will open in Ottawa at the end of June.
Juan Delgado, 33, who currently is the manger at Cabo, will open his own restaurant at 931 N. Perry St. in Ottawa called “Cancun Mexican Restaurant.” The building previously was occupied by Los Mariachis and Taco Bell.
Delgado has been an employee at Cabo since 2011 and has been in the restaurant business since he was 17. His cousins own Cabo in Delphos, where he has honed his restaurant business skills.
Delgado started working at his cousin’s Mexican Restaurant, El Zarape in Bowling Green, Ohio, when he was 17.
“I started in the kitchen prepping food and then became a server,” Delgado said.
The restaurant in Ottawa will have similar food to Cabo.
Cancun will serve lunch and dinner specials and Mexican favorites like fajitas, tortillas, ground beef, steak and chicken burritos, tacos, taco salad, enchiladas, rice and beans and chips and salsa. Carry-out and dine in options will be available. The food, salsa and chips are made fresh everyday, according to Delgado.
A full service bar will offer margaritas with flavors including lime, strawberry, raspberry, peach and mango. The bar that is made in Mexico will be brought from the country. There will be rum, whiskey and Mexican beers with beers on tap available. The business has received approval from the village of Ottawa for its liquor license and is awaiting state approval.
His business partners for the new restaurant will be Antonio Leon, who owns El Picante, a Mexican restaurant in Cincinnati, and Sergio Delapoz. Leon and Delapoz both own Cancun Mexican Restaurant in Cincinnati.
“We had been looking at Ottawa for awhile as a location to have a Mexican restaurant and thought it would be good location and size of town,” Delgado said. He said he hopes the Ottawa location will be a place where customers can hang out and have a good time while eating good Mexican food.
Plans also are to construct a patio in the front of the building that will allow customers to enjoy food and beverages.
Job applications for servers and bussers will be posted on the Cancun Mexican Restaurants Facebook in a month.
Business hours will be Mondays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and noon to 10:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The business can be found on Facebook at Cancun Mexican Restaurant & Cantina.
