WAPAKONETA — Two men were taken into custody by Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office deputies after being found Tuesday evening without permission at the property in the northwest part of the county.
Sheriff Al Solomon said his office received a call from a resident at approximately 9:28 p.m. Tuesday reporting suspicious activity at an unoccupied residence. Deputy Ryan Burke arrived at the location and found several outbuildings and an unoccupied residence had been broken into.
Burke subsequently located Daniel E. Secrest, 49, of Celina, and Jeffrey S. Paxton, 36, of Lima, at the property and learned they had broke into the buildings and unoccupied home. Both were arrested and taken to the Auglaize County jail on charges of breaking and entering, fifth-degree felonies, and attempted theft, first-degree misdemeanors.
Solomon commended the local resident for calling in and looking out for area neighbors as a “perfect example of See Something, Say Something.”
Assisting at the scene were units from the St. Mary’s Police Department and the Grand Lake Task Force.
