LIMA — Lima police on Monday released a limited amount of information surrounding a Friday night shooting that resulted in Allen County’s second homicide of 2019.
Police were called shortly before 7 p.m. Friday to a residence at 405 Orena Avenue in reference to a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers found Dustan Purdy, 25, of St. Marys, suffering from a single gunshot wound. Purdy was transported to Memorial Health System, where was he was later pronounced dead.
Detective Steve Stechschulte said Monday that the shooting “was an incident where the combatants knew each other.” He said police were investigating the circumstances surrounding “how the deceased made it inside the house” on Orena Avenue leading up to the shooting.
Stechschulte said police were not yet prepared to release the name of the residents of the home.
“The case will most likely be presented to a grand jury in the near future,” the detective said.
The county’s first homicide of the year came on Jan. 15 when Brandson Tucker was found by police inside a vehicle that had been involved in a traffic accident in the 600 block of Michael Avenue. Tucker was pronounced dead at a Lima hospital.
