ArtSpace/Lima is happy to host, “Lift Every Voice and Sing’, a musical event that traces the development of African-American music through many diverse eras and genres: spirituals and early church music, Broadway shows like Porgy & Bess, jazz standards during Prohibition, the Motown sound of the ’60s, and the birth of modern hip-hop. Interspersed among the music are re-enactments of various historical moments such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. Written and directed and by Karrie Lester, a vocal performance graduate of Lima and BGSU, she will be joined by four other local talented singers — Jaimie Lewis, Jaired Birks, Clarence Zanders, and Josh Gooding — and the piano accompaniment of Hope Wells. The show is appropriate for all ages.
