LIMA — Jury selection will begin Tuesday in Allen County Common Pleas Court in the murder trial of Lima resident Gabriel Salyers, charged with aggravated murder nearly a year ago of the infant son of his live-in girlfriend.
The charges against Salyers, 32, stem from the April 3, 2018, death of 18-month-old Jaxxon Sullivan.
The infant was found by police at 826 Oak St. in Lima on April 1 and died two days later at a Toledo hospital.
The toddler’s mother, Shelly Wireman, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in her son’s death.
Prosecuting Attorney Juergen Waldick and Defense Attorney John Fisher stipulated in open court last month to the authenticity and accuracy of various documents that will be included during the trial, including hospital records from Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima Memorial Health System, Blanchard Valley Hospital, St. Vincent Hospital in Toledo and Lifeflight medical transport records.
The attorneys likewise stipulated to tests performed by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation on drugs found at the alleged crime scene.
It was during an April 3, 2018, interview with police that Salyers reportedly confessed his role in the death of the child and also implicated Wireman, according to statements made in court during a motion hearing in August.
