SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Ike’s Great American Restaurant on Shawnee Road remains closed after the Allen County Board of Health suspended the restaurant’s license in January.

The restaurant, located at 2228 Shawnee Road, was cited by Allen County Public Health for repeat critical and non-critical health code violations between September 2017 and January 2019, including cleanliness of the facility, improper date marking and bare hand contact with ready-to-eat food, according to the Board of Health.

“That becomes a danger to the public and that’s why we asked the board to take that action,” Bill Kelly, director of Allen County Public Health’s environmental division, told The Lima News.

Kelly said the restaurant was also cited for not having a manager certified in food protection to run the kitchen, a requirement per the Ohio Food Safety Code.

“They’re not to reopen until we approve the structure and see a certified operator on hand to run the kitchen for them,” he explained.

Kelly said he has not heard from Ike’s management since the Jan. 11 Board of Health meeting.

Penny Davila, district manager for Ike’s, said crews are currently working on facility issues with the hopes of reopening within the next several weeks.
