Middle Point man arrested on several charges


VAN WERT — A Middle Point man was arrested for aggravated menacing plus several other charges after he brandished a knife and fought with authorities.

Jason J. Allen, 45, of Middle Point, is at the Van Wert County Correctional Facility and is awaiting arraignment in Van Wert Municipal Court, according to a news release from Van Wert County Sheriff Thomas M. Riggenbach.

At 10:03 p.m. Feb. 7, a 911 call was received from a Ridge Township business. The caller stated a drunk man had pulled a knife and threatened the lives of others. When those people left to avoid conflict, Allen had followed them and crashed his car into theirs.

Allen drove away shortly after deputies arrived and they pursued for about 1.5 miles, when Allen pulled over. He charged out of the car, the news release states, and deputies engaged in what is characterized as a fight that included Tasers. Three deputies were treated and released at Van Wert Health following this.

Allen was charged with two counts of Aggravated Menacing, a felony of the fifth degree; Obstructing Official Business, a felony of the fifth degree; Resisting Arrest, a misdemeanor of the first degree; Failure to Comply with a Lawful Order, a misdemeanor of the first degree; and OVI, a misdemeanor of the first degree.

Riggenbach stated the investigation is continuing and more charges could be filed.

The Ohio State Patrol and Middle Point Fire and EMS assisted at the scene.
