LIMA — Two people were taken to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center Thursday morning after they were found by Lima firefighters inside a burning residence.
Firefighters responded at approximately 6:30 a.m. to 816 Cornell Drive in response to the report of a residential fire. Upon their arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the residence due to a fire in the basement, according to a department spokesman.
Two occupants of the home were found unconscious five feet inside the front door of the structure. They were taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. No report was immediately available as to their conditions.
The property is owned by James and Carlene White, but a spokesperson for Mercy Heath-St. Rita’s said there is no record of anyone by those names having been treated at that facility.
Fire investigators have determined that the origin of the fire was electrical in nature. Damage to the structure and its contents was estimated at $100,000.
