Van Wert man hurt in utility vehicle crash


PLEASANT TOWNSHIP — A Van Wert man was injured in a utility vehicle crash Thursday in Van Wert County.

Richard Smith, 52, of Van Wert, was flown to Lutheran Hospital with suspected serious injuries, according to a news release from Van Wert County Sheriff Thomas M. Riggenbach.

The crash was reported at 2:59 a.m. Thursday.

James Mihm Sr., 44, of Van Wert, was driving the 2019 Polaris Rancher XP — a larger utility vehicle with a cab — through a field when he struck a ditch. Smith was ejected. Mihm reported no injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
