Two Van Wert men enter pleas to rape, child abuse charges

VAN WERT — Two Van Wert men, both of whom are listed in court documents as residing at the same address, were arraigned in Van Wert Common Pleas Court on Wednesday on sex and child abuse charges. Both men were indicted by a grand jury earlier this month.

Thomas Rupert, 64, of the 3500 block of Dutch John Road, is charged with one count of rape, a first-degree felony; two counts of sexual battery, second- and third-degree felonies; and two counts of gross sexual imposition, felonies of the fourth degree.

Robert Rupert, who also resides at the Dutch John Road residence, is charged with two counts of permitting child abuse, felonies of the third degree.

Both men pleaded not guilty to all charges during their arraignment hearings on Wednesday. The have pre-trial hearings scheduled for Jan. 30.
