LEIPSIC — Jala Hazelton, 17, a senior at Leipsic High School has led a pretty active life both inside and outside of the classroom.
“I like to be involved. I’ve participated in dance since I was in pre-school at the Dance Center in Ottawa and I’ve been involved in 4-H since I was a third grader. I’ve worked at Suter’s Produce in Pandora since my freshman year and I babysit in my spare time. I’m involved in different clubs and I’m the Future Business Leaders of America President and I’m the treasurer of the National Honor Society and Science Club,” said Hazelton.
She’s also active in sports.
“I have been involved in softball since my freshman year and I was involved in volleyball for two years and I’ve been a part of the Leipsic golf team,” she said.
The knowledge she’s gained participating in sports has taught her much.
“Learning how to deal with problems. Responsibility is a big one, like owning your mistake and being involved with other students and being able to communicate. Just knowing that everyone roots for one another and no one is by themselves,” she said.
Hazleton is preparing herself for a career where she can use her skills in the marketplace.
“I’ve thought about attending a four-year college and pursuing a degree in business, probably marketing and sales. I’ve been involved in High School Business which is a program here at LHS. It’s a college credit plus course. I’ve always had an interest in learning about business,” she said.
She has her sights set at attending The Ohio State University either starting at Lima or the main campus in Columbus.
She’s hopeful to land a job in Ohio after graduating from college.
“I’ve thought about Marathon or Abercrombie in Columbus,” she said.
Hazelton is happy with her experience at Leipsic High School.
“I enjoy it. I like the small school. Everyone’s very friendly, especially teachers,” Hazelton added.
