VAN WERT — Tim Dellinger, 57, of Willshire, was sentenced Wednesday in Van Wert Common County Pleas Court to 18 months in prison for causing a crash that resulted in the death of his wife.

Judge Martin Burchfield gave Dellinger credit for five days of jail time served.

In November, Dellinger pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated vehicular homicide related to the April traffic accident that occurred in western Van Wert County. The charge is a felony of the third degree.

According to reports from the Van Wert County Sheriff’s office, Dellinger was driving a 2012 Lincoln MKZ on state Route 81 between Willshire Eastern and Harrison Willshire roads. The car went off the right side of the road, came back onto the pavement and then left the road again, striking a ditch and coming to rest in a field.

Christina Dellinger, 54, a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tim Dellinger was flown to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana, for treatment of unspecified injuries.

Alcohol was believed to be a factor in the crash, police said at the time. Both Dellingers were believed to have not been wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
