AMERICAN TOWNSHIP — A rural structure was destroyed by fire Wednesday evening, resulting in what a spokesman for the American Township Fire Department termed “a large dollar loss.”

Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 11:30 p.m. Wednesday to 1350 N. Wapakoneta Road. Upon arrival, they found a detached workshop at a residence owned by Scott Bechdolt fully engulfed in flames. The building was deemed a total loss. The contents of the structure, which included some construction equipment, suffered heavy damage.

Northwest Custom Concrete Inc. operates from 1350 N. Wapakoneta Road.

No cause for the fire has yet been determined, and the incident remains under investigation, the spokesman said.

Mutual aid was provided by firefighters from Shawnee, Lima and Delphos departments.
