LIMA — Lima firefighters were dispatched early Thursday morning to a house fire at 926 W. Leland Ave.
According to a spokesman for the department, the call came in shortly after 2 a.m. Upon their arrival, firefighters found a fire in the first floor of the home that was extending into the second floor of the dwelling. The fire was quickly extinguished, but damage was estimated at $38,000 to the property and $10,00 to the contents of the home, owned by Sally Gipson.
No one was home at the time of the blaze, which was believed to have started in a mattress in the bedroom of the home.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
