Failure to register as sex offender earns man a prison stay

LIMA — A 28-year-old man described in court records as homeless — with a string of outstanding warrants reportedly spanning three states — was ordered to prison Wednesday for repeatedly failing to register as a sex offender as required by law.

Jeremy Perrine admitted to Allen County Common Pleas Court Judge David Cheney that he has on at least five occasions failed to register with the sheriff’s office following his 2009 conviction in Allen County of sexual conduct with a minor. Perrine was labeled a Tier II sex offender upon his conviction.

During Wednesday’s hearing, Perrine said he failed to register “because I was on meth at the time I did not register. Your honor, I have a drug problem.”

But Cheney was unbowed, sentencing Perrine to 30 months in prison.
