LIMA — If you happened to catch Tuesday’s broadcast of “The Price is Right,” you may have noticed a familiar name.
Dashanna McClellan, from Lima, was the showcase winner on the show, which was taped Oct. 18.
She’s been a fan for quite a while. Her father, who is now deceased, watched the show religiously.
“We used to always watch it when we were kids, so I’ve been watching ‘The Price is Right’ for about 25 years,” she said.
Once she got on stage, she spun the wheel to get into the showcase.
“When I spun the wheel for a dollar, it got me into the showcase, then I had a bonus spin and Drew [Carey] told me I could either get the 15 or the 5 which would be ten thousand and if I get another dollar it would be $25,000. So I spin again and I got the 5 and got ten thousand so on the wheel alone I got $11,000,” she said.
When she got to the showcase, she won that, too, after bidding $24,000 on a jet ski, some designer handbags and accessories and a trip to Seychelles, a group of islands off the eastern coast of Africa.
The actual price was $27,270, a difference of $3,270. Her opponent, who bid $32,000 on a trip to Costa Rica and a new car, went over the actual price of $30,694.
McClellan’s total winnings were $39,299.
“That was the best experience of my life. It was so exciting. I was nervous. I felt like I was going to pass out. It was just very, very, very exciting, so much fun. I had a blast,” she said.
She has one year to take her trip to Seychelles and is hoping to find the time sometime this summer.
As for host Drew Carey, McClellan was starstruck.
“Drew was awesome. He kept me going for it. Drew was a fantastic host. I really loved meeting with him, and he was just a fun person to be around. He was letting me know he was from Ohio, too, when I was on the stage. He told me he was from Cleveland and I did not know he was from Ohio until I went on the stage. He was really great,” she said.
