Dunkirk man perishes in Saturday house fire

DUNKIRK — A Hardin County man perished in a house fire in village of Dunkirk.

Greg Spearman, 44, died in the blaze that started at approximately 8:30 a.m. Saturday at a residence at 221 N. Buckeye St., Dunkirk.

According to a press release from the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, the Dunkirk Fire Department was dispatched to the blaze and, upon its arrival, found the entire back half of the residence ablaze. Mutual aid was requested by Forest, Kenton, Ada and Arlington fire departments.

During the process of extinguishing the blaze, firefighters discovered Spearman’s body, according to the press release.

The Hardin County Arson Investigation Team was dispatched to the scene and is handling in investigation, in conjunction with the Dunkirk Fire Department and Hardin County Coroner’s Office.

The incident remains under investigation, according to Hardin County Sheriff Keith Everhart.
