Slick overpass on I-75 results in back-to-back-to-back accidents

LIMA – The Lima post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol investigated three separate non-injury crashes that occurred Tuesday on Interstate 75 near the state Route 65 overpass.

At approximately 3:26 p.m. a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Michael D. Fleck, 33, of Spencerville, was traveling northbound on I-75 when he lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway, struck the cable median barrier and became disabled in the median. While troopers were on scene and investigating this crash, two additional crashes occurred in the same area.

At approximately 4 p.m. vehicle driven by Randall A. Schaefer, 48, of Lima, was traveling northbound on I-75. Schaefer lost control of his vehicle and ran off the roadway and struck Fleck’s disabled vehicle and the cable median barrier. Schaefer’s vehicle became disabled on top of the cable median barrier.

Just three minutes later, a 2003 Dodge Ram, driven by Justin Smith, 33, of Carey, was northbound on I-75 when the driver lost control. The vehicle and ran off the roadway left and also struck Fleck’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported as a result of the crashes and alcohol and drug are not suspected. Safety belts were utilized during each crash, according to the report.

The patrol was assisted at the scene by the Allen County Sheriff’s Office, the Lima Police Department, Perry Township Police Department, Big Daddy’s Towing, and Army’s Towing.
