Ohio Northern University Symphony and Wind Orchestra to present concert
ADA — The Ohio Northern University Symphony and Wind Orchestra will present a concert at 4 p.m. on Dec. 9 in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts.
The program begins as the ONU Wind Orchestra, conducted by Antoine Clark, pays homage to the ceremonial kindling of light during the holidays and the winter solstice through a beautiful and musically illuminating program titled “Season of Light.” The program features John Philip Sousa’s “By the Light of the Polar Star,” Gustav Holst’s “In the Bleak Mid-Winter,” John Mackey’s “Aurora Wakes,” Gabriel Fauré’s “Pie Jesu” from “Requiem,” Eric Whitacre’s “Lux Aurumque,” Alfred Reed’s classic arrangement of “Greensleeves,” “The Polar Express Concert Suite” by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard, and Leroy Anderson’s wildly popular holiday classic “Sleigh Ride.”
After intermission, Music Director Travis Jürgens will conduct the Ohio Northern Symphony in a program titled “Tragedy and Triumph.” This program features Brahms’ “Tragic Overture” and Verdi’s “Triumphal March from Aida,” which will be conducted by assistant conductor Hyunchul Lee. “Strings Ablaze” by Ken Davies will be performed followed by Forsyth’s “Viola Concerto in G minor,” featuring viola soloist Brett Deubner. Deubner has performed worldwide as a soloist with more than 70 orchestras in 11 countries.
Tickets are $20 for general admission, $15 for ONU faculty and staff, $10 for seniors, and $5 for students.
