Blown transformer knocks out Shawnee power

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — A blown power transformer near the intersection of Buckeye and McClain roads left some Shawnee residents concerned about the loud noise Thursday morning.

According to AEP, a bird had caused the outage that left roughly 200 AEP customers without power.

The transformer outage was just one in a series of other reported outages throughout southeast Allen County that left some 1,000 residents and businesses without power through late Thursday morning and early afternoon. AEP estimated power should be restored by 3:30 p.m. in the area.

Residents should be cautious, as some stop lights were out of order because of the power outage.
