SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — An open house in memory of Harold Beckett will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2 at Shawnee United Methodist Church, 2600 Zurmehly Road.
Beckett died Sept. 20. He was 95.
He was a long-time Shawnee High School choir director and cantorial soloist for Temple Beth Israel-Shaare Zedek. He was active with the Lima Civic Chorus, Lima Symphony Orchestra, Grace Methodist Church, Shawnee Methodist Church, First Baptist Church and Ohio Northern University.
An open house memorializing long-time Shawnee High School Choir Director Harold Beckett will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at Shawnee United Methodist Church, 2600 Zurmehly Road. Former students and friends are invited to attend.
Beckett died September 20, at age 95. He had served as the choir director at Shawnee High School for more than 30 years. He was also the cantorial soloist for Temple Beth Isreal-Shaare Zedek for 60 years, and active with the Lima Civic Chorus and Lima Symphony Orchestra. He also served as choir director at Grace Methodist Church, Shawnee Methodist Church, First Baptist Church. After retiring from Shawnee Schools, Harold joined the music faculty at Ohio Northern University where he taught voice. He was proud that many of his former students went on to have successful careers in music.
