KENTON — A Ridgeway man who was working at a Hardin County farm pond was found dead in that pond late Sunday afternoon.
According to Emily Roy, communications coordinator for the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, the county communications center received a call at approximately 5:12 p.m. Sunday concerning an elderly man who was possibly submerged in a farm pond at 12327 county Road 200.
Emergency units were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon their arrival learned that John Dugan, 75, of rural Ridgeway, had been at the pond doing maintenance work and had not been seen for several hours.
A boat was visible at the pond, but there was no sight of the missing man, Roy said.
The Kenton Fire Department’s dive team was summoned to the scene and eventually located Dugan on the floor of the pond in about 12 feet of water. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a member of the Hardin County Coroner’s Office.
The sheriff’s department was assisted at the scene by the Kenton Fire Department, the Ridgeway Fire Department, Indian Lake Fire Department, Lifeflight and EMS units from Belle Center and Kenton.
