Authorities warn of icy road conditions

LIMA — Icy conditions developed overnight, and local authorities urged caution.

The National Weather Service issued an ice storm warning in effect until noon today. Freezing rain mixed with sleet was reported. Ice accumulation could be from one quarter to one third of an inch throughout northwest Ohio, causing slippery road conditions.

Putnam County Sheriff Brian Siefker lifted the Level 1 roadway advisory for Putnam County he’d issued this morning at 10:40 a.m. The advisory meant roadways could be snow-covered and icy, and people should drive carefully.

The National Weather Service suggested if you must travel, bring an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Also, snapped power lines and falling tree limbs could be possible.

The Ohio Department of Transportation reported it had 85 trucks working on roads in Northwest Ohio this morning.
