LIMA — Jerry Springer, of Lima, brought his 1969 Plymouth Barracuda to the Lima Chevrolet Cadillac Charity Car Show in June. He has owned it for approximately two years.
The Plymouth Barracude was manufactured from 1964 to 1974. Plymouth executives toyed with the idea of naming the model Panda. Thankfully a suggestion of Barracuda was put on the table, and that nameplate won. More than 31,000 Barracudas were sold by the company during the 1969 model year.
In 1969, Plymouth placed an emphasis on performance and comfort. Advertising executives used the phrase, “You don’t have to be punished for owning a sports car.” The ad goes on to read that the Barracuda is the sports car for people with kids, suggesting that the car is roomier with a bigger trunk.
