Sheriff’s deputy involved in crash

LIMA — Several people were hurt after a crash involving an Allen County Sheriff’s cruiser at St. Johns Avenue and East 3rd Street.

According to Sergeant John Butler, around 3:15 p.m. Sunday, the unnamed deputy was northbound on St. Johns Avenue when a vehicle driven by an unnamed female pulled out in front of his vehicle from a parking spot. She was also heading northbound on St. Johns Avenue.

The deputy sideswiped the vehicle, then hit a utility pole.

A passenger in the deputy’s vehicle was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of injuries. The deputy was taken to be checked out by another officer. The driver and a passenger in the other vehicle were taken to Lima Memorial Health System for treatment of injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
