OHIO — Regional fire departments will be able to purchase new gear thanks to a grant program offered by the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation.
Under the Firefighter Exposure to Environmental Elements Grant program, Ohio fire departments received a total of $315,000 to be used to purchase safety gear, exhaust systems and specialized washing machines meant to curb respiratory diseases caused by residue collected on firefighter gear during fire emergencies.
Local grants include:
• $5,312.50 to the Lima Fire Department to purchase 75 gloves
• $4,404 to the Lafayette-Jackson Township Fire Department to purchase 26 gloves and 22 hoods
• $14,291.67 to the Ottawa Fire Department to purchase two extractors and 40 hoods
