WAPAKONETA — A Dublin woman charged with murder in the death last week of a St. Marys man has consented, through her attorney, to undergo a competency evaluation to determine her fitness to stand trial.
S. Michael Miller, a court-appointed public defender representing Karen Fontenot, advised Auglaize County Municipal Court officials Wednesday that his client has agreed to a motion to determine her competency to stand trial for the murder of Joe Hunter, 56, of St. Marys, who died Oct. 3 after suffering a stab wound to the chest at a duplex at 204 Williams St. in St. Marys.
Fontenot, who is being held in the Auglaize County jail under a $500,000 bond, has been described by police as Hunter’s girlfriend.
She made her initial court appearance from the jail on Oct. 4 via video conferencing. A preliminary hearing for Fontenot had been scheduled for Friday in Auglaize County Municipal Court, but that and all future hearings have been postponed until such time as the competency evaluation of Fontenot has been completed, according to court documents.
