Employee injured as man attempts to rob Lima convenience store

LIMA — Lima police are seeking the public’s help in locating a man they say attempted to rob a Lima convenience store Monday evening, injuring an employee at the gas station/carryout in the process.

According to Sgt. Jason Garlock of the Lima Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 9:30 p.m. Monday to Wally’s Fillin’ Station, 2295 N. Cole St., in reference to the robbery attempt. An employee at the store said a man later identified to police as Malik Simpson, 22, of Lima, entered the store and attempted to leave without paying for two bottles of beer. The employee attempted to stop Simpson, who she identified as a former employee of the store, police said.

The pair scuffled and Simpson dropped the beer bottles and threw the female store employee to the ground, according to the police spokesman, causing a cut on her leg that required medical attention. Simpson then fled in a blue Ford, police said.

Persons with information of Simpson’s whereabouts are asked to call 419-221-5228.
