Coroner will determine identity and cause of death

An ODOT employee was mowing alongside the North I-75 shoulder on Monday morning when he noticed a blue sleeping bag in his pathway. Upon moving the sleeping bag, he opened it to see human remains. Ohio State Highway Patrol was notified at approximately 9:30 a.m., after which a cadaver dog searched the area for any more evidence.

HANCOCK COUNTY — A gruesome discovery Monday morning by an Ohio Department of Transportation worker along Interstate 75 has prompted a death investigation.

According to a trooper on the scene, just after 9:30 a.m., a worker who was mowing along the northbound lanes of I-75 10 miles south of Findlay noticed a sleeping bag in the path of his mower. When he went to move the bag, he opened it and found human remains inside.

As a precaution, officers, with a cadaver dog were searching an area five miles to the north and south of the scene.

The coroner’s office will be tasked with identifying the deceased person and how that person died.
