LIMA — The Allen, Auglaize and Hardin counties Drug Overdose Survivor Support Teams are joining other state, national and international organizations by declaring Friday as International Overdose Awareness Day.
The area DOSS team has supported 10 families impacted by the overdose death of a loved on, to date. According to a press release from the area DOSS, the stigma of dying from an overdose can cause family members to not want to talk about their grief.
It’s this stigma which led to International Overdose Awareness Day, for the purpose of raising awareness these deaths and remove the stigma.
There are two support groups for people who have lost loved ones to drug overdose in the area:
• 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays at the Partnership for Violence Free Families, 309 W. High St., Lima.
• 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays starting Sept. 10 at Auglaize Council on Aging, 610 Indiana Ave., St. Marys.
The meetings are free and open to the public.
