Driver possibly injured in three car chain reaction rear in accident

LIMA — One person was transported to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center after a three-vehicle crash Monday on state Route 309 in American Township.

According to American Township Police Officer Matt Redick, at approximately 11:15 a.m., the first vehicle in the chain reaction began to slow down when a Saturn sedan, behind the first vehicle, was rear-ended by a Kia, pushing into the first vehicle.

The driver of the first vehicle was transported by American Township EMS with possible injuries. The driver of the Kia received an assured clear distance ahead charge for not maintaining a safe distance, Redick said.

The names of those involved in the accident have not yet been released.
